Sketchup Model in Lumion

Section and Plan Sketches

Riverside Museum by Zaha Hadid Architects is the influence behind my sections. From this plan I will arrange the different spaces and elongate the structure to create the bridge.

The Moving Element

Both of the moving elements in the design serve as a transportation method whilst altering the view of the structure. The lift to the valley floor is conveniently located between the gallery spaces. As you travel down this lift you encounter the sublime view of the construction detailing that enables this structure to span across the valley. It also gives a unique view of the structure from below.

The other transportation method is the cable cart that travels from the second floor offices to the 'educating' zones. This is to provide students and teachers an alternate mode of transport since the structure is quite long. As you travel you will have views of the ocean and islands and also views of the entire building and the valley floor folly.

The Mashup

Architecture has changed irreparably in the past decade. For Architecture to move forward architects need to embrace new ideas and  materials then apply it to their work. One of our main strategies (apart from design) is to find  an ideal medium for collaborative problem solving. Occasionally we have to behave like rogue medics, specifying materials for uses other than that for which they were intended, or testing things out on ourselves. Such as the use of Augmented Reality, using virtual components to stand in for physical objects, AR can save on the fabrication and material costs of real-world prototypes.  It appears that construction is finally beginning to pick back up, giving us the the opportunity to make really meaningful and efficient architecture.

The Valley

The valley I have chosen to to draw inspiration from is Ao Manoa Beaches in the Thailand. The area contains a chain of islands creating valleys in between. The connections that would be possible between these islands could be very interesting. It is also a place of serenity which I think is an important part of drawing inspiration.

A Preliminary modelling of the terrain ispired by the image of Ao Manoa Bech.
